Without a school diploma in Uganda, it is nearly impossible to get a job. But what if you don’t have identity papers? What if your parents can’t afford the required school uniform? What if you’re too hungry to learn — or the quality of the schooling is poor to begin with? In Uganda, many children face such obstacles and never get a chance to attend a proper school.

Obumu doesn’t only support children. We extend our help to adult women and girls — especially those in rural areas — who never had access to proper education. Because of this, they often fall behind on the labor market. Through our support of a local women’s project in Kyotera, these women get a realistic chance at a better future.

Our Mission

Obumu’s mission is to foster real opportunities through education — giving children the chance for schooling, and empowering women who missed out earlier in life. By doing so, we open the door to long-term social and economic independence for individuals and communities.

What We Do

Building, maintaining and supporting the school, Obumu has been building a primary school in Kyotera in 2014.

Providing educational resources . We help fund essential supplies: classroom materials, desks, and furniture — so students can learn in a proper environment.

Women’s education project For adult women and girls who missed out on basic education, we support learning programs in language and numeracy, plus practical skills including financial understanding. This gives them a pathway to economic empowerment.

We also assist other secondary schools in the region by supplying classroom materials

In emergency situations, we provide hygiene products, information, and social support.

We work in close cooperation with local stakeholders on the ground to ensure that our efforts match actual needs, and that funds are used efficiently and transparently.

Why It Matters

Education is the key to opportunity (to work and build up an independent income) — but for many in Uganda, especially in under-resourced rural areas, the barriers are too great. By investing in schooling and adult-education for women, Obumu helps break the cycle of poverty and exclusion. This does not only benefit individuals — it benefits whole communities, by creating more equitable (fair) and sustainable opportunities for growth.
